Mayor & City Council
Greenwood is a “statutory city” with a weak-mayor / council form of government. Which means the powers of the mayor are not greater than those of any other member of the council, with the exception of the mayor's role as presiding officer at council meetings and several minor duties. The Greenwood city council has five members including the mayor. They are responsible for the efficient operation of the city.
The city council meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm. Meeting dates may change due to holidays, lack of a quorum, etc. Meetings are open to the public and are televised on cable Channel 8 / 808. Meetings also are available on-demand at LMCC-TV.org.
Emails Subject to Data Practices Act
Please be aware that any email you send to a council member, planning commissioners, or staff member is subject to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. It may be available to anyone making a request for it, and it may be made part of the public record if it is regarding a matter before the council or planning commission.
Information Regarding Open Meetings
Council and planning commission members are called upon to review and decide certain matters before them in a fair, open, and judicial manner, weighing all of the relevant facts and applying city code appropriately. In an effort to maintain fairness, objectivity, and an open mind, council and planning commission members may not be able to respond to your questions and concerns about a particular matter that is before them outside of an open meeting. If you are interested in or concerned about a matter, you are encouraged to attend the open meetings in which the matter is discussed. Notices of hearings and meetings are posted on the city website and on the bulletin board at City Hall.
